Internation Women’s Day is a global day which celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. To celebrate we have asked some of the S4 team who their most inspiring woman is and why! Read more below!
My inspirational woman is Greta Thunberg because she is standing up for climate change and young people, which has grabbed the attention of world leaders!
Paige Jennings, S4 Creative Designer
My inspirational woman is Margaret Hamilton whose computer coding skills got Apollo 11 to the moon. She is also credited with coining the term ‘software engineering’, and helped to pave the way for all #womenwhocode
Kristi Praki, Lead Outreach Scientist
My inspirational woman is Rosa Parks, the ‘first lady of civil rights’ famous for her refusal to conform to segregation on public transport. She also founded the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development for Detroit Youth.
Michela Finnis, S4 Finance Officer
My Inspirational Woman is Angela Carter. Angela Carter was a writer that challenged the norms of traditional feminism from the 1960s for 25 years right up until her death in 1992. Her work ranged from novels and short stories, to dramatic works and radio plays. It was one of Carter’s novels – ‘The Passion of New Eve’ – which I read in my second year at university, that first sparked my interest in gender and feminism.
